The Summa Process
WARNING: Folks with a history of mental illness, trauma, or panic are urged not to use these techniques without a trained energy therapist. If you decide to do these processes you will agree to absolve the webmaster, his server, and Steve Mensing of any responsibility for the application or misapplication of these processes. Although there are many safety features built into these processes and they have been tested and evaluated, there is always in any process the fraction of possibility that someone could experience some discomfort. So proceed with this warning.
Here's another way to clear via choice. It is compact and I call it the "Summa Process". It can be appealing to folks who are more at home with thinking than feeling. It both clears emotions and creates new beliefs.
THE SUMMA PROCESS
(1) CHOOSE AN EMOTION: Simply choose a stuck emotion and think about it. Can you think about the event where this emotion occurred?
(2) WHAT DID YOU BELIEVE: What did you believe about the event that made you feel the way you did? List all your beliefs on paper. Write down as many as you can recall.
(3)LOOK AT MULTIPLE BELIEFS: Can you list other possible beliefs that could have allowed you to feel differently about the event. List as many as you can.
(4)CHOOSE NEW BELIEFS: Knowing many possible beliefs about the event exist which would allow you to feel better, can you now choose one or a few better beliefs and drop the originals? Write down your new choices in belief.
(5)TWO YEARS IN THE FUTURE: Imagine yourself two years in the future with your newly chosen beliefs and look back on the event that you recalled in step (1). How would you feel about that event looking back from the future with your newly chosen beliefs?
TIPS ON THE SUMMA PROSSESS
* The Summa Process takes some practice. Just allow your beliefs to come up. Relaxing can be helpful. After you get the nack of locating your beliefs about the event, the process will flow easily.
* The Summa Process is both a simple clearer and creator. No doubt you have naturally cleared this way and created this way for as long as you can think. We all notice options. We all make choices. We all drop crummy ideas. And we all choose new beliefs. With practice this method can advance in power and utility.
*Steady practice with the 5th step will help install new beliefs and alter emotion in similar situations in the future.
Here's a sample session to make the Summa Process clearer:
(1) I felt anxious. Event: My boss called me into her office.
(2)I created my anxiety with the following beliefs:
*Maybe I'll get canned and that would be awful.
*I must've screwed up--surely they'll terminate me.
*She'll have my head if I defend myself--there's no winning.
*I can't stand feeling scared.
*I must worry about this over and over until I know what will happen.
*My wife will look down on me and probably leave if I lose this job. That would be terrible!
*I'll never work again. My fearful feelings prove I'll get fired.
(3) Other possible beliefs that I could believe are:
*I don't know if I would get canned. It would be an inconvience if I did.
*I don't recall screwing up. There is nothing guaranteeing I'll get terminated. That's silly.
*I don't have to defend myself. I can listen to her calmly. She'll likely chill down if I do.
*I can stand feeling scared. I've stood it before.
*I can put my mind on practicing step 5 and find other things to do or think about. I don't know what will happen. There are no guaranteed outcomes postive or negative. I'll survive--I always do
*My feelings don't prove anything. They're just feelings. There is no evidence I'll never work again. I've always landed gigs.
(4)I'll choose all the ones I listed in step 3.
(5) I will experience looking back at this past event from 2 years in the future with my newly chosen beliefs.
